We are thrilled to announce the winners of the 2024 CAST Science Communication Scholarships! These outstanding graduate students were recognized for their innovative approaches to communicating complex agricultural, food, and environmental science topics in clear, engaging, and impactful ways.

Plant Science Winner:
Galvin Alonzo Ortiz – University of Florida
Galvin’s research focuses on strawberry disease management, and he hosts a dynamic science communication podcast tailored to Spanish-speaking audiences.

Animal Science Winner:
Mikayla Dycus – University of Georgia
Mikayla studies beef feed efficiency and has co-created a user-friendly website explaining how scientific research is conducted.

Food Science Winner:
Shivaprasad Doddabematti Prakash – Kansas State University
Shivaprasad conducts research on food and grain safety and impressed the selection committee with a compelling video explaining his work in layman’s terms.
