SIVB-CAST Webinar: Gene Editing in In Vitro and In Vivo Systems: Tools, Delivery, and Applications
SIVB and CAST host a free webinar Oct. 20 on recent advances in genome editing, with Aaron Hummel of Pairwise on the future of plant breeding and Veerle De Schepper of Rainbow Crops on AI-guided multiplex editing.

Genome editing is changing how scientists design crops, build disease models and develop therapies. On Oct. 20, the Society for In Vitro Biology (SIVB) and the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) will host a joint webinar on recent advances in genome-editing tools and delivery, and how they are being applied across plant science, animal models, biomedical research and translational biology.

Aaron Hummel, SVP of R&D at Pairwise, will present “The Present and Future of Plant Breeding,” covering new editing tools for therapeutics and agriculture, novel crop traits created through editing and breeding’s shift from prediction to design — toward a future that combines crossing, gene editing and AI.

Veerle De Schepper, head of R&D at Rainbow Crops, will present the company’s Trait Foundry platform, which pairs AI-guided gene network inference with multiplex CRISPR-Cas editing, high-throughput phenotyping and breeding to engineer complex traits. She will share results on biomass and yield components and on doubled haploid workflows that rapidly fix edit combinations into breeding lines.

The webinar is free and open to all. Deepika Chauhan of Pairwise, chair of the SIVB Membership Committee, will moderate.
