Farming and ranching communities face significant and often underrecognized mental health challenges. Economic pressures, weather uncertainty, isolation, and the demands of agricultural work create conditions that affect the well-being of farm families and rural communities in ways that are distinct from the broader population.
CAST is hosting a free public webinar featuring Florence Becot, PhD, rural sociologist and Nationwide Insurance Early Career Professor in Agricultural Safety and Health at Penn State, who leads the Penn State Agricultural Safety and Health Program. Dr. Becot will provide an overview of mental health and well-being in agriculture, examine the structural and social factors that contribute to these challenges, and discuss current and emerging responses — from policy to community-based interventions — that aim to support agricultural communities.
The session is designed for agricultural stakeholders, extension professionals, policymakers, and anyone interested in the intersection of farm viability, rural health, and community resilience. Registration is free and open to all.
