All CAST Publications Now Available in Open Repository — With DOIs for the First Time
For the first time in the organization's history, every CAST publication is now archived in an open digital repository and assigned a permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI).

CAST has completed the migration of its entire publication catalog to the Open Journal Systems (OJS) repository, accessible at publications.cast-science.org. The repository now houses the full collection of CAST papers, special publications, commentaries, and issue papers — spanning decades of peer-reviewed scientific work on agriculture and food systems.

A Permanent Home for Every Publication

OJS is a widely adopted open-source platform used by academic institutions and scientific organizations worldwide to manage and distribute scholarly content. By hosting its catalog on OJS, CAST ensures that its publications are preserved, organized, and accessible through a stable, standards-compliant infrastructure.

Each publication in the repository is now assigned a DOI — a permanent, unique identifier that provides a stable link to a document regardless of where it is hosted or how URLs may change over time. This marks a historic milestone: it is the first time in CAST’s history that its full publication catalog has been assigned DOIs.

Why DOIs Matter

DOIs do more than provide a reliable link. They are the standard identifier used by the global scholarly communications ecosystem, and their assignment carries significant practical benefits:

  • Permanent citability. DOIs ensure that citations to CAST publications remain valid and resolvable indefinitely, even as websites evolve.
  • Discoverability. Publications with DOIs are automatically indexed by Google Scholar, making CAST’s work discoverable to researchers, policymakers, and practitioners searching the scientific literature worldwide.
  • Integration with academic databases. CAST DOIs are registered through Crossref, meaning CAST publications are now part of the Crossref metadata network — linkable from other publishers’ reference lists and trackable through citation tools like Dimensions, Semantic Scholar, and Web of Science.
  • Credibility. DOI assignment through a recognized registration agency signals that a publication meets recognized standards for scholarly content, reinforcing CAST’s standing as a trusted scientific voice.
Website Update Underway

In parallel with the repository migration, the CAST website is currently being updated to reflect complete publication information across all pages. This includes full abstracts, Task Force member listings, DOI links, OJS URLs, and cover images — giving visitors a comprehensive and accurate picture of each publication directly on cast-science.org.

This update is part of a broader effort to modernize how CAST presents its scientific content online, making decades of rigorous agricultural science more accessible, citable, and discoverable than ever before.
